Ride To Conquer Cancer, Training Progress, Part 18

I'm back! And I'm celebrating with a pint of homebrew Pig Skull Ale .

Today is the first day on my bike since Chad, my physical therapist, said it was OK to resume riding. I do an easy five miles to get a feel for the moved backed bike seat. My knee feels fine. I'm concerned about the longer arm reach created by the moved backed seat. Can the handle bars be moved back too?

I do my stretching exercises after my bike ride. Man, some of the exercises REALLY pull on my quads and hams! I'm at least one inch taller now.

Ride To Conquer Cancer, Training Progress, Part 17

Good news! I can start riding again!

I attend my first physical therapy session with Chad at Kort Physical Therapy-Georgetown. Nice people work here. Chad knows a lot about muscles and tendons. My right leg's quads and hams are tighter than my left leg's. Chad shows me exercises to correct this. He also gives me an electrically-driven steroid treatment for my right knee. (I'm really glad I shaved my legs). I'll be getting more of these. I'll be seeing Chad twice a week. He says I can start riding again BUT I need to minimize hill climbing for a while. He suggests I move back my bike seat to reduce the angle and strain on my knee. I'll definitely give it the ol' college try.
